  1. Nollywood actress, Caroline Danjuma has shared her displeasure with Nollywood on her Instagram Story. The beautiful actress and entrepreneur wrote that alleged rape, rape, molestation, sexual abuse, domestic abuse and emotional abuse is now customary. In her words: See her post below:
  2. Netflix has announced the commencement of a three-month training programme in story writing and post-production for film and television professionals in Africa. Netflix said the training was sub-divided into a three-month training program with 12 African participants and an APost Lab post-production workshop for film and TV professionals. It added that the three-month training programme would run in partnership with Realness Institute and would be focused on Nigeria, South-Africa and Kenya. According to the streaming giant, the selection process for the 12 participants commenced in 2020 as over 500 applications were received from candidates across sub-Saharan Africa. It said the 12 creatives were chosen from Kenya, Nigeria, Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe to participate in the inaugural training, which would run until September 2021.

The wife of Governor of Anambra State Ebelechukwu Obiano has commiserated with Jennifer, the wife of Ernest Asuzu and entire Asuzu family, over the sudden demise of Nollywood actor and singer late yesterday. Ernest Asuzu dead: Anambra 1st lady Ebelechukwu Obiano mourns She described the late Nollywood actor and singer as a bubbly, hardworking young man whose progress was momentarily stalled by failing health. In her words: “I am saddened by this news. Every death is a painful experience, but the death of someone dear to us like Ernest, leaves us devastated. I recall the last time I met him in February 2020 at Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, where we evacuated him for treatment and how he recovered and was in good health after two weeks. I also followed up on his progress thereafter and was glad that our effort at rehabilitating him was yielding positive result. “ “There is no doubt that the death of Ernest has created a vacuum in the family and in the Nigerian entertainment sector and has also left an abiding sense of loss among his friends and compatriots. However, as Christians we are consoled that there is an eternity with the Father to which His mercy admits us. Therefore, as we mourn his exit, let us not forget the ideals for which he lived. May his soul rest in peace.” Mrs. Obiano surmised. It would be recalled that in April 2020, Mrs. Obiano intervened through her NGO, CAFÉ at the peak of Asuzu’s health challenges in Lagos and evacuated him to be treated in Awka Anambra State and on recovery returned back to base with his wife.
  4. Nigerian actress, Ani Amatosero has lamented about the unhealthy competition in the Asaba section of Nollywood. The movie star took to her Instagram page to advise her colleagues to reduce the competition. She added that no one should feel pressured to prove to others that they are successful because success is a personal journey.   5. Actress, Mercy Aigbe Popular Nigerian actress, Mercy Aigbe posted a couple of photos of herself via Instagram on Monday and she looked almost unrecognizable. In the photos she shared, the mother of two was spotted rocking a bald head while dressed in traditional male attire. The 42-years-old film star had to transform her appearance from head to toe for a movie role and she noted that she cannot wait for her fans to watch the movie because they will love it.   6. Popular Nigerian actress, Eucharia Anunobi has blasted her colleague, Doris Ogala for accusing Uche Elendu of lying that her store was looted by hoodlums. A video made available on social media by Elendu shows that Anunobi paid a visit to her vandalized store in the company of their colleague, Monalisa Chinda-Coker. In the video, the film star turned evangelist quoted some bible verses as she rained heavy curses on those speaking ill of Elendu. The movie star took to her Instagram page to celebrate her marriage, using the same opportunity to throw jabs at cynics who think it is impossible for actresses to stay in their marriage without it crashing in less than a year.   8. Early predictions suggested that Netflix will encounter a problem when it first launched in Africa in 2016. 5 years down the line, the storyline is now different. A couple of months ago, a Mobile-only plan was launched in India, and now, plans have been concluded to launch a mobile-only plan across the Africa continent. Tested in Egypt in 2018, South Africa in 2019. The Netflix new cheaper mobile-subscription will offer subscribers access to local shows that focus a lot on cultures and experiences in Africa in order to boost subscriptions. Netflix is offering subscribers N1200 ($2.65) a month for its mobile-only service, well below the N2900 it’s been charging for its most basic account. However, the offer is still more expensive than the N250 per month charged by Iroko TV, a streaming platform that has the largest online catalog of Nigerian Nollywood content giving access to over 5000 movies.
