The nine-episode thriller, in which contestants play childhood games with deadly consequences in a bid to win 45.6 billion won ($A52 million), became an international hit when it launched last month. In comparison to its estimated net worth, the show cost just $US21.4 million ($A28.8 million) to produce, Bloomberg said. According to the report, about 132 million people have watched at least two minutes of the show in its first 23 days, easily breaking the record set by US drama Bridgerton, which was streamed by 82 million accounts in its first 28 days. Netflix had earlier announced the show had amassed 111 million fans, but Bloomberg said those figures were based on slightly older data. The Nigerian Airforce denied claims in the media on Sunday that it had given N20 million to armed bandits operating in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State in return for an anti-aircraft cannon that had been captured. NAF speaks on paying N20m to bandits to avoid shooting down Buhari’s plane In a statement which was signed by Edward Gabkwet, Air Commodore Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force said, “The attention of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been drawn to news reports circulating on some media platforms alleging that the NAF, through one of its personnel, paid the sum of N20 Million to armed bandits operating in Jibia Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State in exchange for an anti-aircraft gun allegedly seized. He said, the NAF wishes to state categorically, that there is absolutely no iota of truth in the allegation, describing it as false. He said the report was designed to cast aspersions on the good image of the service. “NAF would not have responded to such baseless and utterly illogical allegation but for the need to set the record straight as well as reaffirm the NAF’s unflinching commitment to decisively dealing with the armed bandits and all other criminal elements in the Country. “For the avoidance of doubt, it must be stated that there is no basis for the NAF to pay bandits or any criminal elements that it has continued to attack and decimate in Katsina State, other parts of the North-West as well as other Theatres of Operation in the Country,” the statement said. He further said, On October 12, 2021, NAF aircraft conducted 5 missions in the Jibia general area and engaged targets with rockets and cannons at Bala Wuta bandits’ locations in Kadaoji, adding that, similar successes were recorded at Fakai Dutsin Anfare, an area in Jibia LGA known for its high incidences of bandits’ activities. The statement added that the false reports could be a part of a campaign to further the cause of insecurity in Nigeria by elements who see the NAF as a threat following a series of successful exploits in operations against criminal gangs. 12. The Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Andrew Adejo, has said that a divided Nigeria cannot survive and prosper. Adejo, who is also the Secretary, inter-ministerial Committee on “Nigeria at 60” awards, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Saturday, while receiving an award on behalf of Mr Boss Mustapha, the SGF. NAN reports that the award was presented to Boss Mustapha as well as to the Permanent Secretary by “‘Say It Loud” group, organisers of the award initiative. The Permanent Secretary said that the clamour for the division in Nigeria is not realistic. He said “‘Nigeria’s division is not workable. Look across the country there are intermarriages, our cultures are the same because we are one. Unity involves both government and the people. “Government has to do more to convince the people that it has their interests at heart by reducing the level of unemployment and putting money in people’s pockets through social investment schemes. “Nigerians are very enterprising. Let people have opportunities to be engaged. If you are engaged you will not listen to advise to go and fight.” He urged the government to continue to provide social services for people, while encouraging private investors to provide the needed support. “The private sector should not be dependent on the government because private sector drives growth, and government should also enhance public-private partnerships,” he said. 17. #NYIF Youth Investment Fund: No Seventy Five Billion Naira (N75 Billion Naira ) released, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Debunks false allegations. In the latest press Statement release by FMYSD on its Facebook page, the ministry wrote: 1. The FMYSD has had its attention drawn to a mischievous and ignorant allegation made by a discredited and self-acclaimed President of the NYCN which was circulated, syndicated, and reported by some newspapers on the alleged misappropriation of 75billion Naira Nigeria Youth Investment fund (NYIF). With no effort made to ascertain the facts. 2. There is no N75B released. Approval for NYIF was for 25B per annum for 3 years. 2021 is the first year and only 3B has been released and 2B disbursed as part of the ongoing process. Over 5,200 youth have benefited. The disbursement was handled solely by CBN and NIRSAL. Not a kobo was released to the account of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports. 3. Names of the 5,200 beneficiaries can be found on the official website of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development as published In June 2021. Names of beneficiaries were also published in the Nation newspapers of June 21, 2021. 4. You may want to also read What You Must Do If You Applied For Any FG Fund 5. The publication of a mere press release that contained fallacious claims and unfounded allegations by the publications is itself appalling and questionable. A simple check or clarification from the Ministry would have provided factual information against the ignorance displayed. 6. The public is hereby advised to be wary of peddlers of falsehood and publications lacking in facts sponsored only to discredit public Officials and embarrass the government.
  18. It is no longer news that WhatsApp is a breeding ground for spam messages and fake news that has gone viral, and while the Facebook-owned chat platform says it tries its best to scour these from its service, many still seep through. Currently in Nigeria, several hoaxes are gaining traction but users are advised to keep calm and use critical thinking to separate the truth from the fiction. 5 Popular Hoaxes on WhatsApp currently circulating in Nigeria 1. WhatsApp is ending at 6 PM in Nigeria According to this chain message, WhatsApp will charge you money to use the platform because its servers are “too full” and will only allow paid users to be on the platform after 6 PM. “Tomorrow at 6 pm they are ending WhatsApp and you have to pay to open it, this is by law,” reads the viral message, collected by the Daily Trust. “This message is to inform all of our users, our servers have recently been very congested, so we are asking you to help us solve this problem. We require our active users to forward this message to each of the people in your contact list to confirm our active users using WhatsApp, if you do not send this message to all your contacts WhatsApp will then start to charge you.” This message is nothing but a hoax in the truest sense. WhatsApp also does not deactivate particular user accounts just because their servers are experiencing congestion. 2. WhatsApp Premium Reports indicate that some WhatsApp users have been receiving invites to join “premium” versions of the app. Some users were apparently sent invitations to join WhatsApp as “Gold” status members. These invitations, of course, turned out to be faked. Currently, there are only 2 official versions of WhatsApp – WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business. Anything else are from third party… 3. WhatsApp Virus An email is going around reaching the email clients of users’ phones which says that they have received a missed call or a voice note on WhatsApp. The email contains a link that when downloaded drops a virus onto your device, something that can lead to user private information leaking. It is important to remember that WhatsApp does not and will never send users notifications via email. Notifications will always come from the app itself. Have you ever been asked by WhatsApp to input your email address? 4. WhatsApp Chain Message Users have been circulating a message apparently from the founder of Whatsapp, “David D. Suretech” which says “If you do not send this message to all your contacts to WhatsApp, then your account will remain inactive with the consequence of losing all your contacts.” The chain message then begins telling users that they will be charged if they do not forward the message to at least 9 contacts. “Tomorrow, we will begin to take messages for WhatsApp for 0.37 cents. Forward this message to more than 9 people in your contact list and the what’s app logo on your will turn blue meaning that you have Become a free user for life.” This message is obviously fake and there is no truth to it. 5. Spying on Other Users with WhatsApp Spy App Apparently, there is a version of WhatsApp that allows you to spy on the chats of others. Reports indicate that people are making use of this version to “spy on their exes.” This story has taken on such a life of its own that there are several articles online now talking about how to spy on other people using certain apps and software. However, most of the links to these apps are gateways to malware and actual spyware that threat actors will use to spy on you. The truth is that there is no such thing as a “WhatsApp Spy App,” and you should always be careful about opening untrusted links on shady websites.

Man kills friend because he saw him in his dream sleeping with his wife Kwadwo Adusei was said to have fatally stabbed his 48-year-old friend, Kwesi Banahene, because he allegedly saw him sleeping with his fiancée in his dream. It was gathered that the incident happened last Friday after the suspect lured his friend to a bush where he stabbed him multiple times all over his body. The deceased’s body was found in the bush after a search team was deployed to look for him after he was reported missing for days in the community. The suspect was said to have stabbed another person the following day over claims that the victim treated him unfairly in his dream and that he was also part of the challenges facing the community. The man, however, survived the attack after he was admitted to the Ankaase Hospital. The news of his recovery angered the suspect who went on to stab the second victim’s son, an act he confessed to when he was eventually arrested. He said, “I lured my friend into the bush and unknown to him, I stabbed him from the back. He fell down and I repeated it till he gave up his ghost.” When quizzed about the attacks, Desco said he carried out the dastardly acts because he was trying to avert his dreams coming to pass as they always do. 25. Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder and general overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide has been reported to have set up a family offshore company in the British Virgin Islands. Pandora Papers: Oyedepo reportedly set up family offshore company Mr Oyedepo’s offshore company popped up as part of the ongoing global Pandora Papers reporting project, led by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), according to a report by Premium Times. The project involved 600 journalists from 150 news organisations around the world sorting and analysing a trove of almost 12 million confidential files, tracking down and interviewing sources, and adding context using public records and other documents. Premium Times reports that on August 20, 2007, the Oyedepo family company was set up and named Zadok Investments Ltd. It was established with 50,000 ordinary shares with a value of $1 each. The online newspaper, which is one of several media organisations actively involved in the findings, said Oyedepo and his two sons, David Jnr and Isaac, are directors of the company while every member of the Oyedepo family is listed as shareholder. The documents, it further reports, did not reveal the exact businesses and transactions the offshore company was set up to conduct. The company is believed to be the family’s investment vehicle under which its wealth is warehoused for offshore management. The newspaper believes the company was still active as recently as 2016, according to documents, when Trident Trust filed a resolution of the company’s board revalidating its list of directors. Oyedepo and wife Faith hold 30 per cent of the shares each while their sons have 10 per cent each. Oyedepo’s daughters, Love and Joy, also have 10 per cent each. Oyedepo owns universities, private jets, school and several establishments located in his Canaanland estate in Ota, Ogun State. He had considered it an insult when Forbes valued his wealth to be around $150 million in 2011. Oyedepo and his church did not respond to the newspaper’s requests for comments.
