  1. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that students who were both wearing hijabs (Islamic garment which covers the body leaving the eyes uncovered) in lengthy testimonies (2.10pm to 4.13pm) revealed to the court that they lost their virginity in the attack. They made the revelation while testifying as prosecuting witnesses during the trial of a fellow student of LASU, Afeez Ogunbowale, over alleged case of armed robbery and rape. Led in evidence by Mrs O.A Bajulaiye-Bishi, the prosecuting counsel, the students, who were roommates, told the court that they were 200-level students when the alleged rape and armed robbery occurred on April 18, 2018. The witnesses told the court that that at around 3a.m., the light of a torch was flashed into their apartment, awaking them suddenly and five men including Ogunbowale, who were armed with a gun and matchete forced themselves into their apartment. Student A (name withheld), 23, told the court “they took three phones, a gold chain, earpiece, power bank and N1, 200. Three of the men left, leaving the defendant and one other person who I cannot identify. “The defendant told the other guy ‘I want to sleep with these girls’. The defendant went to the toilet with my roommate while the second man tried to rape me. “The second man could not penetrate me because I had an asthmatic attack and the second man left me to swap places with the defendant. “The defendant came and had sex with me while I had the asthmatic attack and my roommate was screaming and pleading for him to leave me alone and he said in pidgin English ‘if she wan die, make she die’. “The other three men came back into the apartment and saw the chaos. They told the two other men that this was not what they came here to do and they assisted in looking for my inhaler. My inhaler was found and they all left my apartment.” Student A told the court that they lodged a report at the Ojo Barracks and they were referred to the Mirabel Center for medical examination and counselling. “The case was transferred to the FESTAC police station then to the Ikeja Police Station. When the defendant was apprehended and brought to the Ikeja Police Station, he was shocked when he saw us there. “He went on his knees and said to us in Yoruba ‘Alhaja please’,” Student A said. While being cross-examined by Mr Bisi Salau, the defence counsel, Student A said that she recognised Ogunbowale as her assailant because she had seen him a number of times on campus. She noted that the residence where the alleged crime occurred belonged to her aunt. “I was a virgin until the day that incident occurred, I cannot remember the exact date I went to the Mirabel Center. When I reported the incident at the Ojo Barracks, they called to inform the Vice-Chancellor of LASU about it. “The five men who came to our apartment were armed with a gun and the defendant was the one who carried the gun, he touched me with the gun. “The defendant has a group of friends in my class and his friend sent me a friendship request on Facebook. “When I looked through his friends list, I saw the defendant’s photograph which I gave to the campus Department of State Security (DSS) official. “I saw the defendant on campus and alerted the campus security. He was apprehended in September 2018,” Student A said. Student B (name withheld),20, while giving her testimony narrated how Ogunbowale allegedly raped her. “The defendant took me to the toilet and pointed a gun at my head, that day I was still a virgin and it was difficult for him to penetrate into me. He said to me ‘you never do am before.’ “He took me to a chair and raped and the second man left my roommate and exchanged places with him and raped me as well. “After we had reported the incident to authorities, we were examined and counselled. We had to go there over a long period of time but we had to cut that short because of our exams. “We could not even take some of our medication because our school examination,” she said. NAN reports that earlier, Ogunbowale plead not guilty during his arraignment for five-counts of armed robbery and rape. According to Bajulaiye-Bishi, the defendant committed the offence alongside others who are now at large on April 18, 2018 at the Okokomaiko area of Lagos. “The defendant and his accomplices while armed with a gun, knife, machete and bottle robbed the students of their phones, power bank, ear piece, gold chain and N1,200. “The defendant and his accomplice who is at large had unlawful sexual intercourse with the complainants. “The offence contravene Sections 260(1) and 297(2)(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015,” she said. Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo ordered that Ogunbowale continue to enjoy the bail that was granted to him by Justice Yetunde Adesanya before the case was transferred from Adesanya’s court to her court. She also warned the defendant that neither he or his friends should threaten witnesses otherwise his bail will be revoked. “The defence counsel Mr Bisi Salau who is from the chambers of Mr Lanre Ogunlesi, a reputable Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) has undertaken to drop his qualifying certificate to ensure the defendant report to court,” she said. This case was adjourned till Nov. 25 for further hearing.
  2. Read the interesting story of a woman who has chosen to starve her man of s*x even when he has fulfilled the traditional marriage rites. After suffering his silence, he took to a popular online forum in Nigeria to share his story and seek the advice of social media users. It appears that the faith of the lady is the stumbling block here. Get the full gist below: “Hello friends, I greet you all. Trust your day is going well? It is with very heavy heart and confused state of mind I sent this post on this platform so you can advise me on what line of action I should take. Pastors and genuine men of God should also advise me on what to do as well. There is this lady I have been dating for about a year and 6 months now. We love each other to the moon and most importantly we respect each other opinion and decisions. She is a born again christian who appreciates the things of God more than she appreciates me which of course I have no issues with. When we agreed to start up a relationship after being friends for about 6 months, it was agreed that there will be no s*x until the wedding night but at a point I asked her “what if we are done with traditional marriage rites are we still not gonna have s*x? To my greatest surprise, she said we won’t until church wedding is done. I did not actually take her serious. Fast forward, on the 15th of July 2019 the traditional marriage was done in her father’ compound in the east and all I was asked to pay and give was paid and given without any remainder. After the traditional marriage, we went back to my house in Abuja. Note that we were not staying together before now. I am based in Abuja while she is in Owerri, Imo State. When we got home that night, I told her we can now make love as husband and wife hence the traditional rites has been done and most importantly the bride price paid. To my amazement, my wife bluntly refused. She told me she will never compromise her stand on pre marital s*x I have been very faithful to our agreement based on her claim that she is a virgin. But refusing me my right over her body after every thing including the bride price has been paid is something I can never subscribed to and to this end I have I have involved her parent and her pastor her decision however, still remain no sex till the wedding night. I am putting the wedding on hold for now until she willingly allow me make love to her and she seems not to be comfortable with my decision as well. This is the dilemma I have found myself please I need your wise counsels on this. Thanks and remain bless”

  11. Nigeria’s presidency has once again re-stated its vow of lifting 100m Nigerians out of extreme poverty in the next 10 years. President Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Social Investment Programmes, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed who spoke on behalf of the Presidency said the re-elected Nigerian leader laid the foundation to fulfill the promise in the last four years of his administration. He also outlined how they plan to achieve this. “The first four years of the President Buhari administration has been a tedious project of setting up a foundation for the journey ahead. “That journey on our part is to see that we empower the less privileged, the poorest Nigerians, the unemployed, and giving them the opportunity to lift themselves out of their predicaments and empowering them for self-development and fulfillment. “The President is committed to this project, and thus has set a mandate of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of extreme poverty within the next 10 years. “It may sound too ambitious to some or perhaps even outlandish, but with the renewed focus and commitment I have seen from the President, this is a feat that can be achieved and we must ensure that we roll up our sleeves to do just that. “We have set targets for ourselves. We are going to up the numbers by reaching more communities, reaching more people who are within our purview. “Each of the clusters of the Social Investment Programmes has a target of the number of beneficiaries it must reach within a period of time given the availability of resources. We are going to make sure that we do not falter, slow down, relax or give up. We are determined. “Also we are going to ensure that we improve on our monitoring activities – this would ensure that we take stock of where we are and what we are doing at every point in time. If we see that we are not measuring up to targets then we know that we need to scale up,” he added. Ismaeel further explained: “I have a reason to believe that poverty should not be a permanent feature or an affliction that must remain with us. The goal set out by the President on lifting a 100 million people out of extreme poverty is a task I am personally committed and dedicated to.” View full news

  14. Sabo Nanono, minister of agriculture and rural development, says there is no hunger in the land. This comes as many Nigerians complain of the corrosive state of the economy, with some saying the closure of land borders had hit them hard. But speaking at a press briefing on Monday, the minister said there is sufficient food in the country. He said the closure of the borders will remain until neighbouring countries respect the laws of Nigeria against food smuggling. “I think so long as these bordering countries do not respect our protocols on these very important issues of bringing food into Nigeria, border closure will remain,” he said. “I think we are producing enough food to feed ourselves. There is no hunger in the country and when people talk about hunger, I just laugh because they do not know hunger. They need to go to other countries to know what hunger is all about. “If you say I miss my breakfast and I get lunch and dinner, then that is all right… part of the problem of overweight is not necessarily the issue of a balanced diet, but some of us stay put without knowing that Nigeria used to be a former zone for migration in the sub-Sahara Africa. “The problem of obesity is not necessarily the issue of a balanced diet but because some of us just decide to stay without doing exercise often.” Hameed Ali, comptroller-general of the Nigeria Customs Service, had earlier justified the closure of the borders, saying it is in the interest of Nigerians.
