Filmmaker apologises for falsely accusing Taaooma of shoddy N1.5 million skit
A filmmaker identified as Ola Owolabi (@olaondeck on Twitter) has apologised for falsely accusing Nigerian comedienne, Apaokagi Adedoyin Maryam, popularly known as Taaooma of doing a shoddy N1.5 million skit.

The filmmaker in a post shared on his Twitter page claimed Taaooma charged his client the sum of N1.5 million for a video that didn’t entirely meet the expectations of the client.
Taaooma through her management, The Greenade Company, swiftly dismissed the claims made by the filmmaker, and Ola Owolabi has now come out to publicly apologise.

  1. Coronavirus Hits south africa“The crowd is too much and most of the centers are not observing the Covid-19 guidelines, we need a longer period to achieve the registration of NIN and SIM because of the pandemic”, a male applicant, Kenneth Wagap Dayil, laments over the mandatory registration of the Nation Identification Number, NIN in Lagos enrolment centres.
The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) had directed all telecommunications operators to deactivate all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIM) cards that are not duly linked with the valid National Identification Numbers, causing panic among millions of people in the country.
The directive was issued after the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami convened an urgent meeting of key stakeholders in the Communications industry on December 15, 2020.
This came a week after the government had put a stop to the sale, registration, and activation of any SIM cards as part of its audit of the country’s subscriber registration database.
It is no longer news that Nigeria has the largest population in Africa. The current population of the country is estimated at over 208 million while the total number active of mobile lines has reached 198 million.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has also tied the issuance of driver’s license, renewal, and other services to the possession of the National ID number. The country’s lead agency for road safety management disclosed that the provision of the National Identification Number (NIN) is now mandatory for the obtainment of a new driver’s license, renewal, and for all categories of vehicle registration, with effect from the second quarter of 2021. The introduction of this new policy by the agency is in full compliance with the directives of the Federal Government on the harmonization of citizen’s data.
    Clueless and visionless government?
Following the directive given by the government, a number of Mobile subscribers flocked to the nearest National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) offices to get enrolled. The situation raised eyebrows as some people expressed their displeasure on social media over the time allotted for the process.
After much persuasion, the NCC caved in by extending the deadline by three weeks for subscribers with NIN from December 30, 2020, to January 19, 2021; and six weeks extension for subscribers without NIN from December 30, 2020, to February 9, 2021.
Picture of the crowd at NIMC office in Alausa, LagosIn December 2020, there was a multitude of people at NIMC office and this became a cause for concern due to the exponential growth in the number of COVID-19 cases. Pictures circulating on social media showed tightly-packed people at the office of the NIMC in Alausa, Lagos, and Port-Harcourt, Rivers state.
Information Nigeria observed that the crowds at the locations flouted the COVID-19 protocols by not observing the social distancing and using their face masks. For this reason, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) closed down its center in Lagos state. The government is inept to manage these situations as it seems COVID-19 cases are likely to rise.
When asked if the government was encouraging the spread of COVID-19 through SIM card registration, interviewees gave affirmative responses. Most shared their sentiments on the sheer callousness of the authorities for putting citizens’ lives at risk.
Agboola Olawale Oladunsi stated that the federal government is facilitating the spread of the virus out of ignorance.
“The federal government is behind the spread of COVID 19 due to ignorance. They should be responsible for the increase in the number of cases in the country.
“Other countries are looking for ways to contain the spread of  the virus but the Nigerian Government is forcing citizens to register for NIN, despite the pandemic, and they are not even prepared for the second wave.”
Sandra Nwanne also condemned the government over their latest directive amid the ravaging pandemic.
“The government is curbing the virus and at the same time fueling and encouraging the spread. Clueless and visionless government.
“This is just another mindless decision they choose to take at a very delicate time like this,” she said.
Ebere Oforjimba advised that the exercise be done online to avoid the mammoth crowd.
“Please let this exercise be done online from our phones and laptops. What is the sense in bringing thousands of people together in one place amid the pandemic?” she responded.

Sunny Bright Ogbonna asked if it possible for a platform to be created so that lives can be made easy.
In his words; “Why can’t the government create a platform where one can register easy and simple instead of this punishment?”
Eseoghene London mentioned that even if the government gives people one year to complete the process, it would not be possible due to the fact that they are ill-prepared.
“If they give one year to do that they can’t finish all because their working material is very very poor. The telecommunications operators will be the ones to suffer if all the numbers are blocked. People need to fend for themselves so they cannot spend their entire day at the center.”
Prince Taiwo Adeji suggested the process should be discontinued.
Adeji said; “I will suggest the process should be halted but if that is not possible then the individuals-in-charge need to be assisted by employing more hands. This will go a long way in ensuring that the COVID-19 is contained.”
    Why NIN?
The Federal Government’s latest move to make sure that every Nigerian acquires a National Identification Number (NIN) has piqued the interest of people. The government explained that the NIN is compulsory because it basically binds every recorded information about an individual such as demographic data, fingerprints, head-to-shoulder facial picture, other bio-metric data, and digital signature, thus, any one can easily be identified when he or she engages in transactions. In clear terms, the national ID number serves as a tracking device.
Millions of registered mobile users do not have the national ID number. However, they have other means of identification such as Bank verification number (BVN), drivers’ license, and international passport. Many had hoped that they would not have to go through the stress of obtaining the national ID number since one had been generated for them with their Bank Verification Number (BVN).
The federal government had their hopes shattered after invalidating SIM integration using BVN generated NIN as they insisted that applicants must visit NIMC offices for complete registration. The agency explained that national ID number generated by the BVN can only be used after it has been updated at the NIMC enrollment center. Hence, the process is unavoidable.

Tragedy struck in Arue-Uromi, Esan-North East Local Government Area of Edo State on Friday, January 16, when six children were crushed to death by a Mercedes Benz car bearing a learner driver sign.
It was gathered that the children, four girls and two boys, said to be siblings, were playing football when an approaching Mercedes Benz car, which in an attempt to dodge a pothole, swerved and killed them on the spot.
Another account of the incident said the children were crossing the road when the car ran into them.
The accident provoked anger as residents of the community immediately blocked the road and burnt the Mercedes Benz.
Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Henry Benamaisia, confirmed the incident.

The Federal government has insisted that the deadlines given for the registration of all SIM cards with valid National Identity Numbers were still in force.

The Federal government had last month issued a directive to all mobile network providers to block telephone lines that are not linked with a valid NIN number. This has seen many Nigerians thronging the various NIN registration centers to get their numbers.
Following the widespread opposition to the initial deadline for synchronization, the Federal government gave a three-week extension for subscribers with NIN to link their sim cards from December 30, 2020, to January 19, 2021. It also gave a six-week extension for subscribers without NIN from December 30, 2020, to February 9, 2021
As the nation experiences the second wave of the COVID19, there have been calls for the deadline for the synchronization of NINS and Sim cards to be extended or better still be suspended.
However, in a chat with Punch, the Director, Public Affairs, of the Nigerian Communications Commission NCC, Ikechukwu Adinde, said the deadline was still in force.

There will be no military-style red carpet sendoff for US President Donald Trump as he leaves the White House on Wednesday, as requested by him.

No red carpet for Trump on way out of White House There will also not be a crowd of supporters” at either the White House, the Joint Base Andrews or his final destination, the Palm Beach International Airport.
According to CNN, the Pentagon has rejected the requests on the grounds of public safety.
Trump successor Joe Biden’s inauguration celebration is also being closed to the public because of the insurrection that Trump encouraged his followers to commit on January 6.
At this time, over 20,000 National Guard troops will be on patrol in Washington D.C. and the FBI is tracking threats of violence for Trump supporters and other right-wingers who believe Trump’s repeatedly disproven claims that Biden stole the election through an unprecedented nationwide conspiracy of voter fraud.
As Trump goes into oblivion on Wednesday, he still hasn’t conceded that he lost the election. His approval rating has dropped to 29 percent, the lowest point of his presidency.
And he is leaving a bitter man as he is not participating in any of the traditional hand-off rituals that incumbents typically do to welcome newly elected Presidents (like leaving a farewell letter of advice to the new president or having a one-on-one conversation with them).

A Texas megachurch pastor and former spiritual adviser to Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush has been sentenced to six years in prison for bilking investors out of millions of dollars.

Barack Obama, George Bush pastor jailed 6 years for fraud Kirbyjon H. Caldwell, 67, was sentenced Wednesday in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he and his co-defendant, Gregory A. Smith, were indicted in 2018.
Caldwell, who in March pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, was the senior pastor of Houston’s Windsor Village United Methodist Church, which has about 14,000 members.
He was a spiritual adviser to Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
According to federal prosecutors, Caldwell and Smith, a Shreveport-based investment adviser, used their clout and influence to persuade people to invest about $3.5 million in historical Chinese bonds.
The bonds were reportedly issued by the former Republic of China that lost power to the communist government in 1949.
The bonds aren’t recognized by China’s current government and have no investment value.
Caldwell “used his status as the pastor of a mega-church to help convince the many victim investors that they were making a legitimate investment.
Instead he took their hard-earned money from them and used it for his own personal gain,” Acting U.S. Attorney Alexander Van Hook said in a statement.
Caldwell used about $900,000 he received from the scheme to maintain his lifestyle and pay down credit cards and mortgages, according to the Justice Department.
Caldwell has a master’s degree from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and had worked in the financial industry.
In November, Smith was also sentenced to six years in prison.
In a video posted on Facebook, Floyd LeBlanc, chairman of the Windsor Village Church Family Personnel Committee, said Caldwell has taken full responsibility and paid full restitution to all the victims.
LeBlanc said Caldwell has remained active within the church during his case, including helping with virtual ministry and weekly food distributions to families during the pandemic.
“Mr. Caldwell has apologised and asked forgiveness from the people harmed in this matter,” LeBlanc said.
LeBlanc also described Caldwell as a victim for choosing the wrong business partners.

Some superstitious locals in a Japanese village have constructed a giant Gorilla they believe will scare off COVID-19 from their community.

Villagers build giant gorilla to scare of Covid-19 Villagers in Chikuzen, Fukuoka Prefecture in the south west of Japan spent two months building the life-like statue – which has eyes which glow red in the night and stands at an impressive 23 feet tall.
The structure has been called ‘Giant Straw Scarecrow Gorilla: Proud Gorilla 2020’ and is due to stand watch over the town until the end of the month.
After being completed in December 2020, the giant statue has become something of a local attraction – pulling in crowds who gather around to inspect it; which might not help in the interests of reducing Covid-19 transmissions.
Japan Today reports that locals decided to build the structure in an attempt to ward off the pandemic.

The publication reports: “The likeness of a gorilla was chosen as a symbol of power and strength in the face of the prolonged coronavirus pandemic.”
While adding that the “ape’s lifelike hair was made from rice straw layered on top of a steel frame” and was constructed as an: “idol to worship”.
Proud Gorilla has been regarded as a new offering of hope after Japanese nationals spent the past year worshiping the legend of Amabie – with their prayers falling on deaf ears.
Amabie is an ancient Japanese ‘yokai’ – a type of legendary monster that can bring good fortune or cause chaos.
Amabie herself is a mermaid-like creature with long flowing dark hair, a beak, glowing green scales and three fin-like legs.
First encountered in the 1800s, she became popular again last year for being a deity capable of warding off plagues.
The original legend saw Amabie encountered by a government official in 1846 – with the fish-creature warning that a pandemic would ravage Japan unless her image was drawn and show to as many people as possible.
The story – and an accompanying sketch – were subsequently published in national newspapers to spread the word and desperately fulfil the requirement to repeal the prophesied disease.
With the emergence of Covid-19 as a global pandemic last year, Amabie became popular once more – with Japanese businesses and members of the public frantically sharing her image in the hopes of turning fortunes around in the fight agains the pandemic.
However, with seven of Japan’s most populous prefectures declaring a state of emergency again in recent weeks as Covid-19 cases flare once more, she has fallen out of favour and hopes are now pinned on the 7 meter high Gorilla.

*** The way you guys are Castigating Nigeria is unfair and destruction instead of praying and acticipating positively for a better Nigeria.. You think Nigeria is hell Then come to Congo or Uganda or stay with black South Africans there u would know that Nigeria is like Heaven
*** Shaa! How bad is Nigeria? Reminds me of how in Uni guys used to say, ‘Nigerians are loud because most of the time in their country they use generators because of unstable power — always in constant shouting. ‘
*** It seems all what I have to do to become popular is to take a picture in the snow or in an airport and just say some ridiculous things about Nigeria. I do not think I would ever be able to comprehend why anyone would denigrate his/her country because of Kenya..Such low standards!

Donald Tober, a very wealthy, 89-year-old artificial sweetener magnate, has jumped to his death from his $10 million apartment building in New York.
The CEO and co-owner of the New York-based 1,400-employee Sugar Foods, leapt to his death just after 5 a.m. Friday, and was found in the courtyard of the luxury Upper East Side building between 65th and 66th streets, the sources said.

US millionaire, Donald Tober jumps to his death from his apartment He was struggling with Parkinson’s disease, the sources said.
At the helm of Sugar Foods, Tober turned the company’s flagship product, Sweet’N Low, and its ubiquitous little pink packets, into a mainstay on kitchen counters and restaurant tables across the country, along with Sugar in the Raw and N’Joy nondairy creamer.

“Basically, we’re concerned with everything that surrounds the coffee cup,” Tober told Restaurant News in 1995. “We’re tightly focused.”
By the mid-’90s, some 80 percent of foodservice establishments used Sweet’N Low; the sweetener also commanded more than 80 percent of the sugar substitute market, Restaurant News reported.
“Donald IS Sweet’N Low,” the president of Sugar Foods, Steve Odell told the magazine.
Medical Examiner’s office personnel remove Tober’s body from 620 Park Ave. in Manhattan on Jan. 15, 2021.
“Don’s had as much to do with building Sweet’N Low into a household name as anyone ever has with a product. Every packet of Sweet’N Low sold today can be traced back to a single sales call that he probably made or at least had a part in.”

Odell told The Post he was Tober’s business partner for 51 years.

“He was bigger than life,” Odell said. “He made everybody feel special — everybody. He’s an icon and he’ll always be.”
Tober was fighting a “devastating” disease, “especially for someone as active as he was,” Odell added.
Still, the suicide was a shock.

“I talked to him yesterday and certainly, no. There was no indication whatsoever.”
A Harvard Law School grad, Tober was a former chairman at The Culinary Institute of America and a founder of City Meals-on-Wheels.
He was the husband of Barbara Tober, who worked for three decades as editor-in-chief of Brides magazine and was a former trustees board chair at the Museum of Arts and Design in Manhattan. The couple lived on the building’s 11th floor.
While it stopped distributing Sweet’n Low fifteen years ago, Tober’s company currently manufactures a range of sweeteners and other products for supermarkets and foodservice industries under the N’Joy and Blue Diamond lines.

“He was much more than just one product,” Odell said. “A thousand people a second use our products.”
He added, “Donald left us with eight words, and we live them every day. The first two words are ‘Be prepared.’ The second are ‘Show up.’ The third two words are ‘On time.’ And the last two are ‘Follow through.’
“He did that every day, all day, through his career.”

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said Nigerians who fail to pray for the security of the country might be guilty of prolonging the war and insecurity recorded in the country.
According to him, many Nigerians don’t pray for the troops in the frontline in their daily prayers. He said that many Nigerians only pray for money, promotion, enemies and that they don’t remember the soldiers who fight to insure peace across the country.
    In an article titled, ‘The Decent for the Indecent, the Just for the Unjust’ written to mark the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Adesina said;
“But victory is from God alone. That is what we must realise as Nigerians. Do we ever pray for our troops in the frontlines? Do we remember those youths, our pride, and strength, faced by death daily, as we sleep in the comfort of our homes, ensconced in the tender bosom of our wives.
As we pray; God give me money. Give me a car. Give me a promotion. Kill my enemies. Do it now. Do we ever remember our soldiers? Ere you left your room this morning, did you think to pray…did you pray for our soldiers? Victory comes from God alone. If you don’t pray, you may be guilty of prolonging the war in North-East, North-west, North-central, and all over Nigeria.
Yes, victory is from God alone. But do some people know? Does it ever enter into their consciousness? They only wail: ‘this insurgency war has lasted too long. The banditry has demystified our military. They are cowards. The top guns don’t even want the battle to end.
They are making money in billions.’ Okay. Making money in billions and wasting our soldiers, our youths, our future and hope, in their hundreds and thousands because of blood money. That is all some people see; permanent cynics and sceptics, who know nothing of altruism, and whose God is their belly. They think only of pecuniary gain, nothing else”
Adesina also urges said Nigerians to appreciate the military during the Armed forces remembrance day rather than criticize them.

Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has said the military has “taken control” of his house after “it jumped over the fence”.
Wine is taking on President Yoweri Museveni who is seeking his sixth term in office.

Bobi Wine tweeted the news just hours after he alleged Thursday’s election was rigged, saying “every legal option is on the table” to challenge the official results.

Earlier journalists traveling to Wine’s residence for a press conference were turned back by security forces well before reaching his home. Many reporters were also forced to leave the national election tally center, despite having accreditation.
The electoral commission said earlier on Friday that Museveni, who is seeking a sixth term, led in Thursday’s vote with results in from 29 percent of polling stations.
With 29.4% of ballots counted, Mr Museveni has won 63.9% of the vote compared to Bobi Wine with 28.4%, the electoral commission says.
Earlier, election commission chief Simon Byabakama said the vote had been peaceful, hailing it as a success.
The results were being transmitted to a tallying centre despite the internet not working, he said.
“We’re not using local internet to transmit results. We are using our own system. Don’t worry, the results will come in spite of the fact that internet has been shut down,” he told journalists.
    Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, reacting to the early results said;

The date, 15 January of every year, is a significant day for Nigerians, especially serving military personnel, ex-servicemen and women, their families, and friends.

It is also meaningful to families and friends of those gallant service personnel who paid the supreme price with their dear lives and those wounded in action.
These unique sets of people voluntarily decided to serve the nation through thick and thin to the extent of being killed or injured either in Nigeria to defend its territorial integrity or elsewhere.
The Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Celebration (AFRDC) is a worldwide phenomenon in which nations set aside a particular day annually to celebrate their Armed Forces. Although most have certain things in common, the date and sequence of events celebrating it varies from one country to another. These standard denominations include prayers, parades, laying of the wreath and charitable activities.
The Armed Forces’ celebrations started with the monarchical context and after that the Versailles treaty in 1919. The celebration is designed and is not by accident, to be in line with the Realists’ theory, belief in military power to fulfil the state’s interest. The Developed World followed the Realists’ philosophy that states that national interests should supersede all other interests. National power denotes military might or power, hence the celebration of the Armed Forces.
The global celebration of the Armed Forces in such a manner in the modern context dates to World War I, which officially ended when the Allied Nations and Germany signed the Versailles Treaty in France on 28 June 1919. However, war hostilities ended seven months earlier, precisely, on 11 November 1918 which has since been observed as the Veterans Day every year, regardless of the day of the week it falls, all over the world, especially among the member states of the Commonwealth.
In line with global trends, Nigeria had celebrated its Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Celebration (AFRDC) in the past on 11 November each year. However, it adopted 15 January every year to celebrate her Armed Forces for some significant historical reasons. Nigeria chooses 15 January to commemorate the day the 3-year Nigerian Civil War officially ended in 1970. The celebration is not misplaced as the worldwide military plays a significant role, especially on any nation’s defence and security issues. Thus, respect for the military in most countries is part of national culture and tradition. The military is a significant part of national power and the last resort in defence and security, so nations strive hard to have a virile and formidable Armed Forces. Here in Nigeria, the military is also a symbol of national unity and its contribution to national unity, peace, security, and development is unquantifiable.
Therefore, the observance of a day like this helps the system pay more attention to the Armed Forces; honour and appreciate them for their sacrifices, patriotism, unflinching love for the country. It will help the citizenry appreciate the service personnel’s willingness to serve and sacrifice for the nation. We owe a debt of gratitude to these courageous men and women in uniform and their families for shouldering a tremendous burden on behalf of us. The gallant officers, soldiers, ratings, airmen, and women voluntarily served and sacrificed their youth and most productive parts of their lives to the nation. In most countries of the world, the military enjoys honour and Constitutional roles on defence and security issues.
Thus, many Nigerians hardly know or understand the significant role of this critical segment of society in the country’s national life and development. The AFN global exploits started when they fought in the two World Wars, civil wars against rebels and enthroned peace and democracy in Congo, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Just recently, they assisted in stabilizing the polity in Ivory Coast, the Gambia and Guinea Bissau. One of the most significant national contributions of the AFN is the Civil War’s success to keep Nigeria as one entity. For the fast ten years, they have been involved in internal security duties to curtail violent extremism, militancy, separatists’ agitations, ethnic and religious conflicts, banditry, kidnapping, while practicing in case of any hostile foreign aggression on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nigeria. They are notwithstanding its continuous participation in peacekeeping and peace support operations in the search for global peace. In performing their duties, some were wounded in action and many have lost their lives so that Nigeria could be peaceful, secured and the citizenry safe in conducting their daily activities. Above all, they have performed marvelously well, thus, deserving commendation.
The Legal Framework which provides for the establishment and consequent deployment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria are in Sections 217 and 218 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (As amended), respectively and other subsidiary legislations such as the Armed Forces Act Cap A20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2001 and the Harmonized Terms and Conditions of Service 2017. The primary duty of the AFN is to defend Nigeria from external aggression, maintaining its territorial integrity and securing its borders from violation on land, sea, or air. It is also to suppress insurrection and act in aid of civil authority when called upon by the President and may also perform such other functions as may be prescribed by an Act of the National Assembly. Over the years, the AFN have been discharging its Constitutional duties creditably well despite obvious limitation and distractions occasioned by politicization of security issues. Despite these sterling performances, there is still lack of understanding of the roles of the AFN and noticeable poor cultural affinity with the Nigerian society.
Therefore, the AFN deserve understanding, encouragement, serious and generous commendation, and sincere appreciation by the citizenry, rather than denigration, undue criticisms, abuses, and all forms of negative comments especially from those that ought to know better. The most worrisome aspect is the politicization of security for political expediency rather than national interest. Nigerians, therefore, need to develop the culture and tradition of appreciating the AFN and the veterans, as this personnel on their own have decided to curtail their freedoms and privileges as citizens and lay down their lives for the benefit of humanity and fellow countrymen and women, peace, and development in Nigeria.
It is very disheartening to see some Nigerians denigrating our Armed Forces for inconsequential or unjustifiable reasons. This attitude gave some non-governmental organisations the impetus to continually harass, embarrass, demonize, and paint our gallant Armed Forces in lousy light. A clear example was the International Criminal Court (ICC) and Amnesty International, who were equating them with one of the world’s detested terrorist organisation; Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists’ group. It is essential to know that whatever affects the country’s Armed Forces, equally affects its security architecture. The continued haranguing of the AFN by these organisations is demoralizing and should therefore stop.
As we celebrate these breeds of courageous and gallant people, some of whom are not with us in this world, we need to reflect and appreciate our Armed Forces’ sacrifices and all they have been through to make Nigeria better. They endure hardship, deprivation, safeguarding our lives and properties, risking their lives and yet do not ask for anything other than our collective support, prayers, and respect. In this vein, I enjoin Nigerians to show more understanding, while corporate organisations, institutions and businesses should institute unique treatments for service personnel and our veterans.
To further earn the trust and respect of Nigerians, the AFN must continue to respect human rights and the rule of law. They should be more conscious of their critical role in our Constitution’s defence, guaranteeing peace and security in Nigeria by being more professional and always making the nation proud. The military should exercise more understanding and restraint in their dealings with civilians. They should continue to remain apolitical, professional and bastion of hope in our collective quest for peace and stable democracy in Nigeria.
The politicisation of security issues in the country is counterproductive to our quest for peace and security. The nation should commit more resources to improve the welfare of troops, equipment, and training and enhance the welfare of the families of fallen heroes and those wounded in action. We should also enhance good governance and welfare of the people. The Government should adopt more creative ways of conflict resolution and create an enabling environment for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians devoid of circumstances that are excavating the security situation in the country that warrants the military’s deployment. Leaders should know that most conflicts are resolved through dialogue. They should therefore explore mechanisms of solving disputes that could make resort to military efforts more effective.
I join millions of well-meaning and patriotic Nigerians to celebrate our Armed Forces today and always. Happy Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Celebrations 2021 to our gallant and patriotic Armed Forces of Nigeria and their families. May the gentle souls of our fallen heroes continue to rest in peace, amen.

Outgoing U.S. President Donald Trump has “unequivocally condemned” the breach of Congress by his supporters, as he said it wasn’t something any true supporter of his should do.
This was the first time Trump would be publicly condemning the riot, as he punished punishments for offenders.

Protesters loyal to President Trump stormed the Capitol on January 6th, 2021, halting Congress’s counting of the electoral votes to confirm President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s victory as the police evacuated lawmakers from the building. The incident left five persons dead and several others injured.
Expressly condemning the riots, Trump in a video message posted by the White House on Twitter said the vandalism had no place in his Make America Great Again movement, which he said had always been about defending the rule of law.
“Mob violence goes against everything I believe in, and everything our movement stands for.
“No true supporter of mine could ever endorse political violence; no true supporter of mine could ever disrespect law enforcement or our great American flag.
“No true supporter of mine could ever threaten or harass their fellow Americans.
“If you do any of these things, you are not supporting our movement, you are attacking it, and you are attacking our country,” he said.
Emphasising that those involved in the Capitol attack would be brought to justice, Trump called for peace and national reconciliation.
He said it was time for everyone who believed in “our agenda” to start thinking of ways to ease tensions and calm tempers.
The president said he had received security briefing on reports of additional demonstrations being planned in Washington and across the country in the coming days.
He cautioned against violence and any other form of criminality, adding that he had directed law enforcement agencies to spare no resources in maintaining order.
Trump also commented on his ban on Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms, describing it as an “unprecedented assault on free speech”.

“Earlier today, officers of @PoliceNG robbed me of 100k in the presence of my wife. My only crime was having my official laptop with me. They couldn’t pin any crime on me so they insisted I follow them to station or pay 500k. I was running late for my flight, so I had to be…
“I tweeted this just before my flight took off, so I didn’t see the replies until now that I’m home. A few people have reached out to me about the issue and I will reply once I settle in. I appreciate the support from everyone.”
“For the sake of transparency, I will drop details about the event including payment methods and receipts. I also want to categorically state that I was very cooperative and engaging. My communication was totally aimed at de-escalation.”
The software engineers berates some Twitter users who asked why he paid the money, after they insinuated that he had something to hide since he paid the police officers the money.
In response to his critics, Femi revealed that he works in Netherland as a software engineer and that not an internet scammer as many presumed.
“I’ve seen comments insinuating that I tweeted half truth, some are blaming me for paying while others think I had a skeleton in my cupboard. Omo mo phor o 😂. This is how typical Nigerians think: We choose to blame victims of unfortunate situations rather than give them justice.”
“First of all, I’m a software engineer previously with @Andela and now with @BrightComputing in Netherlands. I AM NOT A YAHOO BOY AND I WILL NEVER BE ONE. I only came home for Christmas and was returning to my base and I know better than to let Nigerian police delay me.”
He also revealed that when he was stopped, the alleged police men accused his and his wife of not putting on a mask as he admitted that they were not wearing a nose mask like the police officers said.
However, he said he explained that they were rushing to meet up with his flight and that he showed them a pack of nose masks and bottle sanitizer they had but that the officers later proceeded to search his luggage.
    Sharing his story in a long Twitter threads, he wrote;
“When the police stopped us at 7/8 bus top, they first accused my wife and I of not wearing nose masks. Indeed we didn’t, but that was only because we were in a rush. I explained this and even showed them a pack of masks and a bottle of sanitizer.
“They proceeded to check my luggage, then asked what I was doing with two laptops. I explained that one was my personal computer and the other was official. They demanded to see my company id, and I further explained my company does not issue id since it’s almost…
“irrelevant. However, I showed them my NL residential permit as a proof that I live and work over there. It was at this point that they stopped talking and got into the Bolt ride with me. Then two others got into their rickety korope bus and we followed.
“After about 300m, we drove into a street opposite Ajao Estate junction and drove for about 150m. All while asking me to pay 500k. I told them I needed to catch a flight but my words fell on deaf ears. They kept yelling and at a point stopped my ride and asked me to get.
“In their bus. I knew getting in the bus would fuck me up – on a good day, I drag with police but I didn’t have the luxury of time – so I had to find a solution quick. We started negotiating my release. I went as low as 50k but they would rather bundle me in their bus than take.”
a measly 50k. After we agreed on 100, they took me on a bike me to an access bank ATM,  a few meters from where we parked – where I withdrew 80k. Because I had earlier made some withdrawals, I couldn’t go pass 80k, so I was taken to a Paga shop – also within the axis – where I withdrew the last 20,400 (400 being the charge for paga transaction). Now that they had the money, they started acting all nice and brotherly. One even asked for my complementary card, while another jokingly remarked “Guy, your wife dey panick o”.
“I cannot identify these officers by name, neither can I identify their vehicle (a silly mistake on my part), however, I recognize the faces of the two that really engaged me. This is my submission.”

Meanwhile, he also shared evidence of the five bank transactions he made. See screenshot below.

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was spotted wearing the same outfit she wore during President Trump’s first impeachment in 2019 for the second impeachment vote against the president on Wednesday January 13.
On Wednesday, January 13, Ms Pelosi appeared at the House impeachment vote wearing a black dress with three-quarter sleeves and a blue and black floral mask which she paired with a gold necklace.
Her outfit caught lots of attention on social media, as many Twitter users seems to have recognized the outfit from the 2019 impeachment.

In a statement to People, Ms Pelosi’s office confirmed that the outfit was the same first suit dress and necklace from December 18, 2019, when the House passed two articles of impeachment against the president for abuse of power and obstruction of justice.
Mr Trump has become the first president in the nation’s history to be impeached twice, following his recent impeachment after being charged him with incitement of insurrection.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has revealed that banning US President Danskd Trump was the right thing to do after a clear warning.
In a Twitter thread made by Jack, he said that he did not celebrate or feel pride in banning Donald Trump on his platform.
He also stated that the banning came  following a clear warning and that the decision was made based on threat to physical safety both on and off Twitter.
His statement reads; “I do not celebrate or feel pride in our having to ban @realDonaldTrump from Twitter, or how we got here. After a clear warning we’d take this action, we made a decision with the best information we had based on threats to physical safety both on and off Twitter. Was this correct?
“I believe this was the right decision for Twitter. We faced an extraordinary and untenable circumstance, forcing us to focus all of our actions on public safety. Offline harm as a result of online speech is demonstrably real, and what drives our policy and enforcement above all.
“That said, having to ban an account has real and significant ramifications. While there are clear and obvious exceptions, I feel a ban is a failure of ours ultimately to promote healthy conversation. And a time for us to reflect on our operations and the environment around us.
“Having to take these actions fragment the public conversation. They divide us. They limit the potential for clarification, redemption, and learning. And sets a precedent I feel is dangerous: the power an individual or corporation has over a part of the global public conversation.
“The check and accountability on this power has always been the fact that a service like Twitter is one small part of the larger public conversation happening across the internet. If folks do not agree with our rules and enforcement, they can simply go to another internet service.
“The check and accountability on this power has always been the fact that a service like Twitter is one small part of the larger public conversation happening across the internet. If folks do not agree with our rules and enforcement, they can simply go to another internet service.
“This moment in time might call for this dynamic, but over the long term it will be destructive to the noble purpose and ideals of the open internet. A company making a business decision to moderate itself is different from a government removing access, yet can feel much the same.
“Yes, we all need to look critically at inconsistencies of our policy and enforcement. Yes, we need to look at how our service might incentivize distraction and harm. Yes, we need more transparency in our moderation operations. All this can’t erode a free and open global internet.”

A Nigerian lady, Effiong Laurel Scott, has claimed that she was raped by the man who was hacked to death by an NYSC member in Akwa Ibom.
On Sunday, January 10, a youth corper identified as Princess Pascaline Odume, was arrested by the police for allegedly killing a man identified as Japhet Akwaowo.
Odume alleged that she killed the man in self-defense after he threatened to kill her after she refused to remove her clothes so that he could have sex with her. read here

In a viral video shared online, Effiong alleged that the man who was killed by Odume also raped her in 2017 when she was 18.
    She said;
”My name Effiong Laurel Scott and I am from Akwa Ibom state. I heard about the incident that took place here in Uyo of the girl that butchered the guy to bits and pieces. I heard about it a few days ago but I did not think much of it until yesterday.
I was just scrolling through Facebook and I saw a comment on the post that stated ‘Even if it was a rape case, why would she kill the guy?’.
That caught my attention and I went through the post and I started reading through and this was the girl’s side of the story that said the guy tried to rape her.
I was like let me see the girl’s photo and the guy’s photo.
As God would have it, it turns out that this was the guy that raped me in 2017, July 17th to be precise in Etinan local government.”
The lady gave details of how she met the man and the incident that followed.
”My family and I came back to Akwa Ibom in 2012. I grew up in Maiduguri. Due to the security, insurgency and all that, we came back to Akwa Ibom state.
My dad was transferred top Etinan and we moved to Etinan to be with him. I celebrated my 18th birthday on May 11 and this incident happened in July. I was on my way out on a bike. This guy trailed me on the bike and came to me. He stopped the bike that I was on. He got the number. This guy is actually a rapist and a killer.
He is not just a rapist, He is a serial rapist.
So this guy met me. He sounded so sound. The guy was like since you are in a haste, just give me your number. When you come back we would get to see and talk. Me too I was in a haste so I was like let me just give him my number, it’s not like I was going to pick his call.
On my way back home, when I was on the exact spot that he met me to get my number, my phone rang and I picked up and he was like where are you?. I told him I was where he saw me. By this time, this was around 6.30 in the evening. In Etinan, by 6pm, everybody is already on their way home or in their houses.  It is already late and almost dark.
He told me to stop by a filling station. I stopped by and stood beside it. Listen to the storyline so that you would know that the whole ””jazz” thing that the girl said is true and it is realistic. It is very very true that the guy uses ”jazz” on his victims. He hypnotises them.
He told me that he told his Aunty that I was coming by to visit him. I was  still having some sense in me. I was like no I cannot come to your house, I just met you. This guy kept on convincing me. We stood on that spot and kept on convincing me. At a time I was like, Okay, let me just waste my own time, let me go with this guy.
The road he entered and started taking me through was a bush track. He took me through that road and in my mind, I was like what are we doing here exactly. By the time we got into the house, the house was like a deserted place.
So I got into the house and the moment I saw it, I said I can’t stay here. So I got up and told him I was going, maybe I would come another time. I reached for the door. Lo and Behold, the door was locked.
As I turned my back to ask him to open the door, this guy got a matchete and a pen knife. He told me in that girl’s exact words that he will rape me and kill me and nobody will know about it and nobody will do anything about it. Yes! Those were his exact words to me too. No single thing changed.
I begged as an 18 year old. I begged. I cried. What didn’t I do that day. I begged him. I was literally crying.
Fine, he still had his way with me. He had his way with me not once, twice. to be precise I got back home that night around 11pm. I snucked into the house, I had my bath. I cried my eyes. I cried for days.”
Effiong said she only told her elder sister as she revealed that the man also threatened her elder sister after he got to know.
”The only person I was able to tell this thing to then was my elder sister. Somehow he got to know that my elder sister knew about it. He started threatening her from that time. This guy’s name is Akwaowo Japheth. That is his name. Quote me. I am the one saying it. This guy’s name is Akwaowo Japheth. I can vouch on my life that that girl did not just want to murder him.”he said
In the video, Effiong said that she is very happy that the man died a painful death. She also encouraged other victims of the man to speaker while insisting that the coroner killed the man in self-defense.
